OpenScript & Actions Editor
Programming Reference Guide
for
ToolBook  8.5/8.6 and 2004 - FREE

As I was learning how to use ToolBook 4.0 many years ago, having a programmers reference manual that I could read through while sitting on the couch or on the bus was a huge convenience. However, although ToolBook used to ship with an OpenScript Reference Manual, SumTotal Systems decided to no longer offer that manual starting with ToolBook 5. Many in the ToolBook community, including myself, have since desired that it once again become available as well as having it incorporate the new features ToolBook has introduced over the years. This book I have written is intended to do just that.

Use the links to the left to find out more about this book.

  • The OpenScript & Actions Editor Programming Reference Guide is a 487 page reference manual covering over 1000 terms, functions and commands that can be used in both the OpenScript language as well as the Actions Editor programming environment.
  • The book contains an extensive index which is thoroughly cross referenced permitting you to locate entries even if you don't know what the proper ToolBook term is.
  • You will find a single Cheat Sheet for each of the ToolBook object types which will outline for you all of the OpenScript messages and properties supported, as well as all of the Actions Editor events and properties supported. Additionally a Notes area is provided describing the most commonly misunderstood aspects of each object.
  • Also included is a single page defining all of the functions which no longer need to be linked in order to use them.
  • The bulk of the book is an alphabetically arranged listing of terms, functions and commands. Each of these are broken down so that you can see the proper Syntax, Definition, Return Values, Notes, as well as a sample showing the actual use of that term.

NOTE
This book used to be available in printed format, but it no longer is. It is now only in PDF format and available for TB 8.5/8.6 and 2004....and is free to anyone who wants a copy. Will there be a ToolBook 9 version someday? Perhaps.
