ACCESSING THE DEVELOPERS EXCHANGE TOOLS

Looking for extra tools to help you author your content? Odds are that you are not even aware of some freely accessible tools available from your Tools menu using a feature called Developers Exchange Tools.

In ToolBook 7 this new feature was added to ToolBook but since there was no big fuss made about this new feature, not many people know about it - unfortunately. In ToolBook 7 it was referred to as Web Tools, but was re-termed as Developers Exchange Tools with the release of ToolBook 8.

So, what is this Developers Exchange Tools all about? Accessible from your Tools menu is a option in both Assistant and Instructor called Developers Exchange Tools.

If you attempt to access this feature, ToolBook will reach out through your active Internet connection and display a ToolBook file which is located on our Web Site. The resulting displayed ToolBook file will serve as a menu for the available Tools as seen below.

Where did these tools come from? Seven or eight of them were created by the Development team when ToolBook 7 was released, but the remainder of the Tools were created by the Technical Support staff. In fact I created about 60% of the tools you will find in the list of tools.

NOTE: By default the Tools shown are the Remote Tools - remote referring to tools located on the SumTotal Systems web site. You also have the option of placing some tools on your local machine so that you can still access the tools even though you may not have an active Internet connection.
